Posting into a private channel

chronik can post into a private channel, but only after somebody invites it. This is a Slack rule rather than a chronik one, and it is the reason a rule can look correctly configured and still fail.

Invite the app

In the channel you want announcements in, type:

/invite @chronik

That is the whole step. The channel does not have to be made public and nothing else changes.

Why the channel might not appear in the list

When you pick a channel while making a rule, chronik shows the channels it can see. Slack does not list a private channel to an app that is not a member of it — so a private channel you have not invited chronik to will simply not be there.

That is not a bug and not a permission you can grant from the chronik side: there is no way for an app to ask Slack "show me the private channels I am not in". Invite it first, and the channel appears.

Why a rule that worked can stop working

If chronik is removed from a channel it was posting into, the next attempt fails and the rule is paused with the reason recorded. You will get one mail about it, and the rule shows the reason on your rules page.

Invite chronik back and switch the rule on again. Nothing is lost — the rule, its template and its settings are exactly as you left them.

An archived channel

A channel that has been archived cannot receive messages at all. chronik pauses the rule and says so. Un-archive the channel or point the rule somewhere else.
