Deleting your account

Deleting is a single decision that removes everything chronik holds about you. This page says what goes, what stays, and the one thing you have to do outside chronik.

How to do it

It is in your settings, under Delete account. You confirm twice: once to open the step, once by typing the confirmation it asks for. The second step is not decoration — this cannot be undone and there is no restore.

The work itself runs in the background. Your session ends immediately and you are signed out.

What is removed

• Your rules, and with them every channel a rule posted into.
• Your Slack workspace connections, including the stored token. chronik stops being able to post anywhere on your behalf from that moment.
• Your templates.
• Your public changelogs, which go offline. Their addresses stop resolving.
• Your account, with your address and your sign-in identity.

What is kept, and why

Delivery records are kept without you in them. The rows that say a message went into a channel at a particular time stay, with everything identifying you removed. They are what makes a count right — how many messages a workspace received, how often a channel was quiet — and a count that silently drops rows when somebody leaves is a count nobody can rely on.

Nothing in them names you, points at your account, or can be traced back to it.

The one step outside chronik

Removing your account does not uninstall the GitHub App. GitHub, not chronik, controls that, and an app can not remove itself from your account.

Go to your GitHub settings, find chronik under Installed GitHub Apps, and uninstall it there. Until you do, GitHub keeps sending release notifications to an address that no longer has anything to do with them — they are discarded, but the traffic continues.

The same applies to Slack: chronik's own connection is gone, but if you want the app removed from the workspace entirely, that is done in Slack.

If you only want it to stop for a while

You do not have to delete anything to go quiet. Switching a rule off stops its announcements and keeps everything else — the rule, its template, its channel — exactly as it is. Switch it back on and it resumes.
